There has been a school in Condover since the 1800s. The original school was linked to St Andrew’s and St Mary’s Church and the Trustees at Netley Hall. The Church of England foundation has been embedded in school life for centuries. The current school site is a short walk from St Andrew’s and St Mary’s Church. The building is made up of pieces of history, each bringing a different level of challenge in terms of maintenance.
Condover Primary School is small. Our school is situated in the middle of a village called Condover just off the A49. Although we are in a rural location, we are also only a few miles from the town of Shrewsbury. Children attend from the village, the wider area and even from Shrewsbury. Many of our families have farming backgrounds. As a result, the extensive school grounds including a forest school area have been core to curriculum planning.
Our two school dogs, Mabel and Dottie are a significant feature in and around school. They make a fuss of staff when they arrive, welcome children and parents at the gate in the mornings, support and comfort anyone who may be feeling sad or anxious. All visitors are warmly welcomed by our school dogs.
We have a high proportion of children with SEND 36.8%. There is a private pre school on our school site where most of our children feed into reception class from. Currently there are plans and arrangements in place for the pre- school to become part of the school. come from to attend reception. In 2024-25, 11.6% of pupils join mid year. The number of pupils eligible for pupil premium is below national. Attendance is very good, 2024-25 whole school attendance was 96.1%.
Partnership with St Andrew’s and St Mary’s Church continues to this day. In addition, the school links with Hereford Cathedral for Trust wide events of worship and celebration. In addition, the school has been part of the Diocese of Hereford Multi Academy Trust since 2017.
Ofsted said “Leaders want the very best for all pupils. They have designed a curriculum that aims for pupils to become well-rounded learners with a rich variety of experiences. Staff work with curriculum leaders from a local school in the trust. This includes the collaborative production of curriculum documents and in the moderation of work. Staff appreciate having this time to collaborate and share expertise.”
“Pupils’ personal development threads through all learning in school. Pupils understand why they need to show respect to others. They welcome and respect everyone in school and celebrate their differences. Staff and pupils actively promote the school’s Christian values.”
Leaders have high expectations of pupils with SEND. As a result of this, pupils with SEND receive good support and are fully included in all aspects of school life. Leaders support staff to make the right adaptations to the planned curriculum. This ensures that pupils with SEND experience the curriculum in line with their peers. Staff receive regular training on how to support pupils.
The school’s vision led the development of the rigorous curriculum, its ambition, its inclusivity and its clear pedagogical underpinning. Together with robust governance from the Diocese of Hereford Multi Academy Trust and clear systems and processes our ambition for each child is realised.
Our partnership with St Edward’s School is at the heart of our vision and values.
Love each other and know you are loved has been lived out by Condover School Community over many years.
Love, trust and forgiveness have been values that have ensured school improvement work, not only at Condover but also in supporting other schools on their improvement journey. This work and support from a place of love is reflected back into the school community on a daily basis.
Collaboration with our DHMAT partner schools and those in our locality as well as local organisations such as Shrewsbury Town Football Club, Parish Council, JCA Condover Hall. Ensures all children flourish.
As a result of the rich vision of the school and the work of its community, each child knows they are loved and loves in return. The warm, caring, trusting ethos that infuses every part of the school, its building, its people and its prayers leads to a school which ensures its vision is lived, every day.
