The Governing Body at Condover C.E. School consists of a team of people with a variety of interests and skills who work together to assist in raising standards of achievement for all pupils. This includes helping to provide a strategic view for the school, acting as a critical friend and ensuring accountability. As a Church School Governors have a responsibility to ensure that the guiding principles of the founding church are incorporated into all aspects of the governance of the school. That the terms of the trust deed governing the school are adhered to.
The governing body appoints sub-committees of governors oversee specific areas of school life such as the school’s finance, staffing, curriculum and premises.
Activities that Governor’s at Condover School are involved in include:
- School policies and curriculum
- Long term plans and the future of the school
- How the school budget will be spent
- Approving and interrogating performance targets
- Approving the school prospectus
- Admissions (For Voluntary Aided Schools)
- Working with the head on the appointment and dismissal of staff
- Approving the repair and maintenance of school buildings and premises.
- Use of school premises outside school hours to make it available to the wider community.
The Governors try and take an active rather than passive role in assisting in the running of the school and believe that by working with the staff and pupils they are far more in touch with the issues that the school faces on a daily basis.
The Governors work with the Head to ensure that the finance of the school is managed in the most effective way to ensure that the money benefits all children. The budget is closely monitored and regular meetings are held.
We are keen to ensure that the links with the wider community are strengthened; one way is to make the school available for rent to outside groups. The Governors have produced the letting documentation and are responsible for ensuring the correct documentation is in place to comply with Local Authority and Health and Safety Guidelines.
Ensuring the school is accountable is an important function of the Governors. The Governors have attended a session to ensure that they understand the key indicators against which school performance is measured.
Governors at Condover C.E. S chool take the role of safeguarding pupils very seriously, 90% of the Governors have attended Level 1 Child Protection Training and are committed, together with the staff, to ensure the school is a safe, happy and enjoyable place for all pupils.
Health and Safety is taken very seriously at the school, the Governors have been actively involved in ensuring that the school field is safe for the children to use and that the trees do not prevent the children from playing safely.
The Governors attended a Christmas lunch with staff and pupils and this further strengthens the Governors role as part of the school community. The lunch provided the opportunity to chat to staff and pupils in an informal manner.
Governors attend special events which celebrate pupils achievements: assemblies, church services and performances. They are also invited to share Christmas lunch with pupils and staff
